Duck Head Clothing Entrepreneur Of The Year
19-year Old Internet Whiz Beats Out Other Finalists to Win $10,000NEW YORK, June 29 - After a yearlong search on campuses across the nation, Duck Head's CEO Bob Rockey has announced that 19-year old Kevin Colleran, a native of North Haven, CT, is winner of the "Entrepreneur of the YEAR" contest. "Competition was fierce among the six "Entrepreneur of the Month" finalists," Bob Rockey said. "It is Kevin's leadership abilities, tenacity and extraordinary vision that made him stand out." That, and his 8-year track record of more than five successful e-commerce businesses.
As Duck Head's 'Entrepreneur of the YEAR', "Kevin embodies this entrepreneurial spirit," says Bob Rockey. His prize? $10,000 and an internship at College Television Network's headquarters in New York. To Kevin, the true reward is the recognition for all the hard work he's done along the way.
"You don't need a driver's license to travel the information superhighway," says Kevin. That meant a lot to an 11-year old North Haven, Connecticut, native with big dreams. Via the Internet, Kevin was free to indulge his curiosity and interests. From trading baseball cards to providing 24-hour customer service to turning photos into art, Kevin Colleran has done it all, and all ONLINE. With five successful e-commerce ventures under his belt at age 19, Kevin uses the Internet as a tool to bring his entrepreneurial ideas to life. In addition to winning Duck Head's "Entrepreneur of the Month" award, Kevin was recently named winner of Babson's Student Business Initiative Award for having accomplished the most in business. Not bad for a freshman at a school whose programs are currently ranked #1 in Entrepreneurship by Business Week, the Financial Times, and U.S. News & World Report.
Kevin's next move? He plans to play an administrative role in his companies LiveService.com, and PhotoMasterpieces.com, head up Babson's new incubator, consult to websites with his company CyberMarketing Solutions International, writing for Playboy Online and Collegiate Monthly 101, and help companies market to college students nationwide. Ready to retire at age 19? Nope -- just waiting for the next thunderbolt of an idea to strike!
This spring semester, Duck Head Apparel dedicated itself to nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit in college students across the nation. Promoted on campuses everywhere, Duck Head's "Entrepreneur of the Month" contest gave students 18-24 who run their own business the opportunity to win $2,000 cash and $500 in Duck Head clothing. Chosen for the uniqueness of their business, its fulfillment of a need in the marketplace and the likelihood of its long-term success, these winners are positioned to lead our country into the future. "These kids are superstars," says Bob Rockey. "Individually and together, they are the leaders of tomorrow. How do you choose just one?"
