Seven Student Businesses "Hatch" at Babson College

Wellesley, Mass…The Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship at Babson College announces Hatchery businesses for the College's spring 2001 term. The Babson Entrepreneurial Hatchery, which provides professional workspace for a select number of separate student enterprises, is outfitted with computers, telephones, copy/fax machine, Internet access, and conference room. The service is provided rent-free to current students and recent alums. The Spring 2001 Hatchery term enables student entrepreneurs to utilize available resources to help launch businesses while they are enrolled at Babson.

Since its inception in 1998, the Babson Development Hatchery program has played an instrumental part in fostering success in more than ten entrepreneurial businesses, including Smartbride.com, the nation's largest online site for finding local wedding services, and Highwired.com, the world's largest online global community for high schools. Hatcheries provide a unique link between new businesses, faculty, and students by building an atmosphere of support for early-stage startups. Babson's entrepreneurship faculty, which is the largest dedicated entrepreneurship faculty in the world, mentor students and bring real-world experience to the program. Babson is ranked number one in entrepreneurship education among business schools by U.S. News & World Report, Business Week magazine, The Financial Times, and most recently by Success magazine.

"Babson is a trailblazer in encouraging entrepreneurial philosophy by emphasizing the importance of out-of-the-box thinking, creative problem solving, and learning by doing. These essential characteristics help graduates thrive in both corporate careers and start-up ventures," said Lawrence P. Carr, The Murata Dean, School of Management, Babson College. "In today's competitive marketplace, the Babson Hatchery Program enables students to start their businesses before they graduate and it supports them every step of the way during the critical start-up stage."
